Tieman

Doug Tieman concluded a four-decade behavioral healthcare leadership career in 2021, when he retired after serving as President and CEO of Caron Treatment Centers, headquartered in Berks County, Pennsylvania, from 1995 until 2021.

During his tenure at Caron, he led the institution to remarkable growth, resulting in a tenfold increase in both revenue and net assets. Under Doug's leadership, Caron extended its services across multiple locations in Philadelphia, New York, Washington D.C., Atlanta, and Florida. Caron's partnerships with leading research institutions, including the University of Pennsylvania's Treatment Research Institute, Penn State College of Medicine, and Stanford University, fortified its commitment to groundbreaking addiction research and outcomes.

Doug's commitment to quality and patient-centered care was evident in his advocacy for the implementation of standards and outcomes-based treatment. He championed the culture of quality, emphasizing the need to always act in the best interest of patients. This ethos was encapsulated in his mantra: "Sin boldly on behalf of patients!" During his 26 years at Caron, Doug helped raise more than $250 million in philanthropy. Caron's annual fundraising grew from $500,000 a year in 1994 to over $20 million in his last year at Caron.

While at Caron, Doug served as Chairman of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers and was a member of the American College of Addiction Treatment Administrators. His leadership roles included testifying before Congress to ensure ethical marketing practices. Doug authored countless articles and made numerous presentations around the country on topics such as leadership, culture, resiliency, turnarounds, philanthropy, and recovery.

Since retiring from Caron, Doug's commitment to community service and the nonprofit world is evidenced through his board memberships at Tower Health, Alvernia University, and the Satell Institute. He is chairman of the board of Arcs Health, a rollup of urgent care centers. He is also serving as chairman of TAR, an organization committed to addressing complex posttraumatic stress syndrome. He has also consulted with private equity groups and coached several CEOs.

Having degrees from both Concordia and Northwood Universities, Doug furthered his education at Minnesota Management Institute at the University of Minnesota. He has been recognized with numerous awards for his contribution to the field. Doug also authored a book on leadership entitled "Flying Over the Pig Pen: Leadership Lessons from Growing Up on a Farm."
